A little about me.

I’m Carmen New (she/her/hers). I’m originally from Jackson, Tennessee. I have also lived in Nashville, New York City, Atlanta, and (currently) Denver. I’m a singer, both commercially and classically trained. I love to travel, and my goal is to finally get a stamp on my passport in 2022! In my spare time, you can probably find me singing, baking, or writing. I also dabble in photography.

My Professional Bio

I have worked in marketing and communications for about 10 years. I spent nearly eight of those years working in higher education targeting prospective students through both paid and organic engagements through marketing and communications. I worked for a health and wellness advertising agency for about two years and in that role, I learned skills in project management, financial tracking, and client relations.

The greatest joy in my career so far has been connecting directly with audiences from both a recruitment, external marketing standpoint and from an internal, pride-building perspective. I’ve learned over the years that beyond needing a general familiarity with my audiences, it is important to take things a step further by getting to know them and engaging directly with them to inform my brand awareness. This immersive style of brand maintenance not only educates me about my audience, but it also serves as a reality check for more transparent and authentic marketing and communications.

Leaning in a little further, I aspire to be a great mentor and leader. In my most recent role as the marketing and event coordinator for the School of Architecture at Georgia Tech, I managed three to four graduate students every year. These students helped me design campaigns for social media, event promotion, and recruitment assets and provided assistance in a complete website overhaul that I managed. They also assisted me with running events, organizing the School’s archive, and so much more. In leading these students, I discovered management tactics that worked for me and helped us meet deadlines and develop organizational habits that benefitted both myself and our students. Most of all, I enjoyed getting to know some really amazing and talented (now) architects and future architects. As I mentored them, they also mentored me in many ways by keeping me knowledgeable about trends/problems in the industry, showing me challenges students face, and keep our School accountable for the messages we used to promote ourselves.
